Each year, BJA elementary students forego the traditional classroom gift exchanges and instead focus on giving to students in need. This year the BJA family reached out to students who suffered loss in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Christian schools in the New Jersey area were contacted, and the elementary school administration was able to get the names and ages of young people whose families lost everything. During the week of December 3, students brought their gifts and placed them around the Christmas tree during special “Giving Chapels.” The space around the tree was bursting with a wide variety of practical gifts—all thanks to the overwhelming generosity and thoughtfulness of our students and their families. Gifts were sorted into boxes and backpacks according to their appropriateness for the individual recipients. With some red decorative tape and some large Christmas tags, these gifts were ready to travel to New Jersey. Two BJU students traveling to that area of New Jersey offered to transport as many gifts as they could, and the rest were shipped to the Christian school where the students attend. The Lord has blessed us abundantly. The blessing of giving to these students was yet another real-life example of the scriptural principal that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
