On Friday, May 10, our student, friend and brother in Christ Todd Lurtey entered peacefully into Heaven and into the presence of Jesus Christ after a battle with a rare form of cancer.
Todd, a 9th-grade student, touched the lives of his teachers and classmates as well as family members and many friends outside the Quadrangle with his patient spirit and courage. His consistent testimony of God’s grace and strength also impacted the medical community who served him.
Although medical needs kept him from attending classes second semester, Todd made every effort to come to school for special events, including the May 1 Academian presentation and yearbook signing and his class party just three days before his passing. Todd will be greatly missed in the Academy, and his death is a reminder that life in this world is brief. The reality of his eternal state is our hope—those of us who have a personal relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ will be with Todd in Heaven someday, bringing glory to God for eternity.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Bible Church, 2005 Old Spartanburg Rd., Greer, S.C.
The funeral service will take place at the same location on Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m.
