The Bob Jones Academy Forensics Team was named State 1-A Champions in Speech and Debate for the eighth consecutive year during the South Carolina Forensic Coaches Association State Championship Tournament held at Mauldin High School Feb. 28 -Mar. 1.
Competing against high schools from across the Palmetto State, the team placed 4th overall. BJA coaches, Chuck and Gail Nicholas, were also honored as the 1A Coaches of the Year. The following students advanced to elimination rounds and then on to placing the top in the state:
- State Champion in Novice Reading – Haley Brammer
- Champion Novice in Prose Interpretation – Haley Brammer
- State Champion SPAR (Spontaneous Argumentation) Debate – Will Christmas
- 2nd Place, SPAR Debate – Micah Samuels
- 3rd Place, SPAR Debate – Jonathan Savoy
- 2nd Place, Lincoln-Douglas Debate – Elliott Kelley
- 3rd Place, Declamation – Lauren Jacquette
- 5th Place, Extemporaneous Speaking – Eliot Lovegrove
- Semi Finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking – Andrew Clater
- Semi Finalist in Impromptu Speaking – Eliot Lovegrove
- Semi Finalist in Prose Interpretation – Haley Brammer
- Semi Finalist in Children’s Literature – Michael Leung
- Semi Finalist in Original Oratory – Ghevont Panosian
- Semi Finalist in Novice Reading – Anne Nguyen
- Quarterfinalists in Impromptu Speaking – Peter Donovan, Andrew Clater and Elliot Lovegrove
- Quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation – Jennie Hudson
