On Friday, April 25—as part of the first-ever school-wide BJA Field Day—the middle school students participated in their Jog-A-Thon, the school’s annual fundraiser. This year’s goal was for each student to raise $62 to fund an iPad learning lab. From family and friends, they sought sponsorship for laps completed, miles run or simple donations. After the grand opening of Field Day, 60 minutes went up on the scoreboard clock, the horn sounded, and the Jog-A-Thon began. Combined, the 7th- and 8th-graders completed 2,361 laps equaling 590.25 miles and an average of almost 4 miles per student. Fourteen students ran at least 24 laps (6 miles), with the top runner completing 30 laps (7.5 miles).
The event raised over $4500 in collections. Will Counsil won “Principal for a Day,” having brought in over $500. Homeroom 8-1 ran the most laps and also submitted the most donations of over $1,100.
