Many players performing many drills while coaches observe and evaluate before making their final cuts—so begins another season for the BJA high school and middle school soccer and volleyball teams. Each team returns a core of players and looks forward to the challenges of a new season. The middle school boys soccer team under Coach Fremont has set its sights on advancing beyond its two consecutive 3rd place finishes. Meanwhile, under the direction of new Coach Ott, the middle school volleyball team is rebuilding with an infusion of confidence with several players returning from last year’s tournament champions squad. With their first games on Thursday, August 27, both teams are intensifying their practices.
On the high school front, varsity boys’ soccer and girls’ varsity volleyball teams travelled to Winston-Salem, N.C., to participate in the Gospel Light Christian School Soccer/Volleyball Jamboree on Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22. The LIONS competed against the home team along with teams from Vandalia Christian School (Greensboro) and Faith Christian School (Ramseur). The effort led by senior players was great preparation for the upcoming sports season for both teams.
Next the varsity soccer team travelled to Asheville to confront the Asheville Trailblazers in anticipation of a tough match. And, the LIONS had a strong showing on offense as they secured the first official win of the season with a solid 7-1 victory.
JV volleyball began with a hard fought loss to Fountain Inn Christian School. The varsity girls team displayed a thorough team effort from the first serve as they dominated the Falcons of Fountain Inn Christian School, 3-0, in securing a SCACS victory.
