Since 2007 BJA has come home from the South Carolina Forensic Coaches Association Speech and Debate State tournament as the 1-A State Champs. (Prior to 2007 the team carried the 2-A title.) The team also came in 4th place overall in competition against schools in all classifications. The State Tournament was held at Riverside High School March 4–5.
