Daniel Hudson, BJA senior, auditioned in March 2016 at the Fine Arts Center and earned the honor of being a soloist for one of the Greenville County Youth Orchestra concerts. The Concert was performed at the Gunter Theatre at the Peace Center last week and is the first of the three major concerts this season. Daniel also had the opportunity to be interviewed at WSPA-TV last week on Your Carolina as publicity for the upcoming GCYO concert.
Daniel Hudson began cello lessons at age 11 in Atlanta with Merideth Hoagland. After moving to Greenville in seventh grade, Daniel continued his cello studies with Christopher Powell and then Sharon Gerber. Daniel currently studies with Martha Gerschefski. In addition to his cello studies, Daniel composes music and studies piano.
Daniel began playing in the Greenville County Youth Orchestras in eighth grade as a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a member of the Young Artist Orchestra for four years. (There are five academy students in the Young Artist Orchestra: Daniel Hudson, Grace Johnson, Lauren Flower, Sarah Davis and Bryn Carrier.) Daniel has played in the Bob Jones Academy orchestras since seventh grade, having been principal cellist since 2014. He has also been in the BJA Honors String Quartet for three years. The Quartet has performed at the Biltmore House and also competed in the USC Chamber Day and Competition with the Parker Quartet in March 2016.
