The fall season for BJA athletics has come to a close with great successes. The Lions fielded middle and high school teams in soccer, volleyball, and cross country, and this was the inaugural year for boys’ varsity volleyball. Here are the final results for each sport.
Middle School Girls’ Volleyball: The girls finished fourth in the regular season. Tara Wheeler was named an All Conference player. The team was coached by Tanya Harwood.
Middle School Boys’ Soccer: The team finished with an undefeated record for the season. At the CMSC tournament the Lions were crowned champions when they defeated Mitchell Road Christian Academy 2-0. Elias Bryan, Reid Burgin, Davis Neal, and John McCarty were named All Conference players. Gilbert Fremont coached the team.
Cross Country: The girls’ team came in second in the SCACS state meet; the boys’ team came in third. Nazar Panosian was second overall, and Evelyne Blough was third overall. Laura Uwarow coached the teams.
Varsity Girls’ Volleyball: The girls headed to the SCACS state tournament as the second place 2A team in the region. They finished as the second place 2A team overall after being defeated by Hampton Park. Andrea Villaverde and Kari Christmas were named to the All Tournament team. Bethany Ring coached the team.
Varsity Boys’ Volleyball: In their inaugural season the team was the region champion. In the SCACS state championship game the team finished second to Carolina Christian. Harris Henderson and David Washer were named to the All Tournament team. Geof Ericson coached the team.
Varsity Boys’ Soccer: The varsity team went to the state tournament as the Region I champions. In the SCACS state championship game the team defeated Oakwood Christian 2-1. Congratulations to our state champions! All Tournament team honors went to Austin Huffman, Uriel Gomez, Johnathan Poore, and Blake Stephens. The champion team was coached by Don Ward.
