During January, as first-graders at Bob Jones Academy studied r-controlled vowels in words like car and fur, they received help from a hard-working, vowel-lassoing cowboy character named “Bossy R.” Along with their phonics instruction, the students also learned songs about cowboys and the Old West and completed writing projects in which they named a ranch and designed a brand. Their lessons culminated on Friday, January 27, with Cowboy Day, an exciting day filled with western-themed learning, activities, crafts, songs and even a “chuck wagon” lunch.
From paw prints leading to the door to decorations in the classroom to games, activities and special snacks, K4, K5 and first-grade students at Bob Jones Academy welcomed 100 Day on Monday, January 30. With fun songs, creative writing projects, math challenges and team activities, students celebrated 100 days of learning. However, there was more to the day than just wearing funny hats and counting treats. The students also looked back at how much they had learned and forward to how much more there is to learn.
