During their phonics and reading unit titled “A Day to Remember,” first-graders at Bob Jones Academy engaged in writing projects about imaginative weather events and read stories about important days that the story characters will never forget. The unit also introduced them to what it would be like to perform as a circus clown. To wrap up their unit, the students participated in Clown Day—a day of wigs, red noses, and lots of fun, curriculum-based clown activities. They especially enjoyed that some of the parent volunteers wore funny outfits and joined in the fun! In first grade at BJA, learning and fun come in one big package!
