October begins the speech and debate competitive season for the BJA Forensic Team. The 54-member team coached by Chuck and Gail Nicholas began the season competing at North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. Competing against 28 schools from North Carolina,South Carolina and Tennessee, the team won the 5th-Place Sweepstakes team award. The following members won trophies:

6th-place Novice Original Oratory – Lauren Jacquette
4th-place Novice Original Oratory – Will Sowers
3rd-place Novice Original Oratory – Michael Leung
4th-place Oral Interpretation – Helena Sullivan
2nd-place Varsity Original Oratory – Caleb Miller
6th-place Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate – Will Christmas

On Saturday, October 20, the Academy team hosted the 26th Annual BJA Invitational. Competitors from a four-state area came together on the BJA and BJU campus to compete in debate, public speaking and interpretation events. The Academy team served in positions such as tab room personnel, concession workers, greeters and lunch crew. After four rounds of competition, the Academy team presented over 120 trophies to the winning individuals and schools. The competition included students from local public schools such as Hillcrest, Mauldin, Riverside and Southside High Schools. The BJA tournament is the largest one-day tournament in South Carolina.
