Reading is foundational to every subject—and to life, and a love for reading is a treasure. Books not only serve as tools for learning, they allow us the opportunity to travel and to experience places, people and adventures in a fun, fresh way—all without leaving our seats! To help each of our elementary students cultivate a lifelong love for reading, we are pleased to announce the “Let’s RRRRead!” program. This 5-week program was established by a team of BJA Elementary School teachers and administration and is geared specifically to the needs and interests of our own students. True to our very own BJA mascot, the theme is the lion.
The competition is well under way, not just between classes but also between the administrators and related arts teachers who have also joined the race to read. Each grade level has been assigned a specific reading time goal, and each Monday the students report their reading time from the previous week. Their reading time not only helps them earn points toward an individual prize but also counts toward class points as they work to see which classes (or teachers!) will claim the title as the 2013 RRRReading Champs! The contest will end on February 7.
