Field Day is always a highlight of the year for BJA students—and the Parade of Athletes, featuring the elementary students, brought an Olympic atmosphere to the stadium field and kicked off the opening ceremonies. Flags waved in the breeze as the national anthem and the BJA pep song trumpeted through the stadium. Once the torch was lit and the games declared open, it was on to an afternoon of fun for elementary, middle and high school students.
Elementary students competed in various athletic events and tried their hands at a variety of carnival games. Bounce houses, a dunk tank and an assortment of food vendors were just a few of the booths that added to the festive atmosphere.
Seventh- and eighth-graders participated in the annual Jog-A-Thon—running laps around the track for an hour. Each lap raised money from pledges gathered prior to the event.
Along with faculty members, students in grades 9–12 served as hosts and hostesses at the field day events. Many high school students were “buddies” to elementary students, taking them to the carnival games and field activities. Some ran the games and others served as assistants to the field day coordinators. Another group of students went to two local parks and picked up trash as a community service project.
Overall, the day was a fun-filled opportunity to experience unity among BJA students.
