As an enrichment activity in their classical Greek studies, the seventh-grade language students enjoyed the unique opportunity this week to learn to make pottery in the Greek coil style. Mrs. Nancy Adams, high school art faculty, graciously shared her art lab and instructed the students in the processes of making coils and forming a vase, mug or some other kind of vessel. The students enjoyed putting their Play-Doh experience to work as they rolled the clay! Mrs. Ashley LeBlanc, seventh-grade language teacher, says, “This kind of project is academically useful for several reasons. It gives the students a hands-on cultural experience, gives them a taste of what the high school art program has to offer, and allows them to see collaboration in learning between schools and subjects. Additionally, as some students have said, it is more fun than nouns and verbs!” The projects will be glazed and fired as keepsakes and trophies to the students’ painstaking work!
