The 2015 National Speech & Debate Tournament took place in Dallas, Texas, in June. This tournament is the largest academic competition in the world with more than 3,500 coaches in the organization. Chuck and Gail Nicholas, BJA’s speech and debate coaches, were selected from these coaches to be final round adjudicators at the National Tournament. In the words of the executive director of the event, this is “one of the greatest honors that can be bestowed on an individual attending the National Tournament.” Such national recognition reflects well not only on Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas but also on the speech and debate program at BJA. Well done, Mr. and Mrs. Nick!
Additionally, Chuck Nicholas received the NSDA’s Distinguished Service Plaque–Eighth Honors. NSDA Executive Director Scott Wunn explained that the “achievement of 400 citations reflects an outstanding commitment to the service of others and betterment of our community.” Mr. Nicholas is only the fifth coach (out of tens of thousands) since 1925 to earn this honor.
