Senior Connor Nolan was recently recognized for his accomplishments in karate. In his own words, he tells what he did:
“I tested for my second-degree black belt in Denver, N.C. It was a 3-hour physical test over everything I’ve ever learned and more. I had to demonstrate my techniques, forms, self-defense and sparring and had to take down two attackers on my own. The testing candidates all had to know the Korean terms for the techniques and forms; however, I was the only person testing for second degree. At the end, I won the spirit award—which is given out biannually in the Southeast Region to one testing candidate who stands out and shows a certain determination to succeed. That’s exactly the spirit I have been taught in Scota Karate Academy! Yet we are constantly reminded in the studio that it’s truly God Who gives us our abilities and that we should do everything for His glory. My instructor is a great role model and like a second father.”
