On Saturday, October 17, Bob Jones University hosted a world-class music ensemble in a performance in Rodeheaver Auditorium. The U.S. Army’s Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus presented an exciting, demanding and entertaining program of varied selections.
The Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of The U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components. These two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and in 30 countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions. The 65-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches and Broadway musicals. The band and chorus also perform independently and have recently shared the stage with such ensembles as the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.
As part of their community outreach they invited several BJA music students to perform with them for one number. The following students performed alongside the group’s professional performers and experienced what it is like to hear and feel performance levels far beyond the routine.
Bryn Carrier, oboe
Daniel Leedy, euphonium
