In mid March the high school Speech and Debate Team competed in the South Carolina District Tournament, which is the national qualifier tournament for the National Speech & Debate Association. After at least five rounds of competition, six students made it to the final rounds placing in their speech/debate events.
Congratulations are in order for Lauren Jacquette, who was the first-place Lincoln-Douglas debater. This makes nine consecutive years of BJA’s qualifying a Lincoln-Douglas debater to the national tournament. Lauren will now represent South Carolina at the national tournament in June in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Additionally, the South Carolina district chose students to represent the state in World Schools Debate at the national tournament. Congratulations to Ethan Case and Daniel Quigley for being chosen to compete on this team.
Finally, Bob Jones Academy won the District Tournament Trophy for an accumulation of district tournament points. This trophy will be housed at BJA for the next year.
