From Friday, November 3, through Thursday, November 9, middle school students collected assorted grocery store products for their annual food drive for Miracle Hill Children’s Home. Throughout the 5-day competition, homerooms earned points by meeting collection goals in categories that included dry and canned goods, paper products, beverages, condiments, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. Students collected, sorted, counted, boxed, and weighed the various items. Each day, after all the boxes were weighed, students loaded them on a truck trailer. By Thursday Mr. Foster’s homeroom had collected nearly 3,400 items weighing over 6,200 pounds and won the competition. Overall, the student body collected almost 12,000 items totaling over 17,600 pounds. The following week the winning class traveled to MHCH where they enjoyed pizza and a brief tour of a children’s cottage. They also saw how MHCH stores the BJA contribution, and they contributed to the sorting and arranging of it.
