Tuition, fees, payments, MONEY—these words invoke an array of emotions, both negative and positive. During their visit later this month, the accreditation review team will examine all aspects of our receipts and expenditures as well as our future plans for tuition, fees, fund raising, and capital improvements. Let’s take a light-hearted look at the stewardship of our finances here at BJA. If you are adventurous, you can sing this ballad to the tune of the theme song from the vintage TV show “Gilligan’s Island.” Here goes . . .
Would it be great—indeed be grand—
If everything were free?
And all we ever had to do
Was pluck our money tree!
Well that’s just not the way life works.
Cash doesn’t grow on trees!
So every single dollar counts,
Tuition, yes—and fees!
Expenses rage and bills pile up
You think, “Will I survive?
When there’s more month than money left,
How will we stay alive?”
You’re staring at your school bill now;
You’re at an all-time low.
And then a thought crosses your mind—
Where does the money go?
So, since you asked, I’ll try to ‘splain:
Tuition we collect,
Gets split among important needs
We happen to select.
God in His providence has led
Choice servants to His call.
Our admins, faculty, and staff
Are compensated all!
Their salaries and benefits
Compose a portion large—
Of your hard-earned tuition paid,
We trust it’s a reason’ble charge!
Utilities can challenge us!
HVAC, the lights, and heat . . .
We strive to do our very best
To keep the mood upbeat.
As hundreds frequent our school halls
And maintenance needs increase,
We partner with custodial friends
Who tackle grime and grease.
But what would BJA look like
If there were no supplies?
Tuition helps to stock our rooms
With well-purchased, good buys!
Another source of revenue
Is fees that we collect
To fund extracurriculars
And challenge intellect!
And what about insurance costs
For health and safety cares?
Battle inflation . . . consternation . . .
Expenses unawares!
Primary Center, CDC
The middle and high school, too,
All budget for the fiscal year
To last the whole year through.
The team from SCACS arrives real soon
Improvements to suggest.
They write reports and recommend
What needs to be addressed.
With focused, sharp, external eye,
They look at dollars spent.
Financial audit now complete—
Account for every cent!
Our reaccreditation team
Will soon be on their way.
Please pray with us that God will grant
Us wisdom those three days!
