On many peoples’ minds is the concern about the Corona virus outbreak known as COVID 19. While BJU will be disseminating more specific details regarding our preparations, I want you to know that BJU, BJA, and the associated entities are proactive in our approach to the situation.
BJU has a pandemic plan in place that has been revisited in light of the worldwide apprehension regarding COVID 19. There are ongoing discussions about prevention and response to the virus. We are reminding our students of the basic precautions such as washing hands, coughing into a tissue or elbow, and avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth. We ask parents to keep home your children if they have a fever or are sick.
There are several trips planned for students away from Greenville. We will evaluate each trip with regard to the local conditions with the safety of the students being of paramount importance. For example, there is a fifth grade trip to Columbia next week. At this point, there does not appear to be any risk to our students so we will plan to go unless circumstances change between now and then. As another example, the New York Mission Trip (for seniors) is scheduled for the first full week of April. We will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision by March 20.
In addition, we, as administrators and teachers, are developing a cyber-school plan that would enable the digital delivery of educational lessons in a worst-case scenario. Lord willing, we will not need to implement the plan, but it will benefit the school to be prepared for this or any other similar emergency.
Pray with and for us that we will have God’s wisdom to carefully and appropriately deal in this situation.
