Dear Parent,
BJA plans to hold tryouts for our fall interscholastic sports (Grades 6–12) beginning on Tuesday, September 1. Teams will be chosen by the end of the week.
Games are to begin on Tuesday, September 8. Game schedules will be posted on our website later this week. Schedules will likely be more flexible than ever before because of COVID-19 health and safety requirements now added to the typical issues such as soccer games being rained out.
With over 125 of our secondary students typically participating in interscholastic sports, we have proceeded cautiously and carefully, evaluating health and safety conditions on a daily basis.
Our decision to postpone tryouts and games for the month of August was based on multiple factors. First, in late July and early August, COVID-19 case numbers and positive results were trending upward in the Greenville area. In addition, we needed to focus on opening our school year safely and efficiently without the complexities involving interscholastic athletics. We also referenced BJU’s COVID task force information and had guidance from BJU medical personnel related to starting seasons for BJU Bruins teams.
As we begin our season, we will use a variety of modifications and protocols that we believe will best ensure a successful season.
We believe that we are now able to wisely hold athletic tryouts, and they begin September 1. We will continue to monitor health and safety conditions and make adjustments as necessary for practices and competitions.
