This year’s middle school mock trial team has been a part of several firsts:
- First year mock trial was offered as a middle school class
- First year the competition was on the same day as the high school teams
- First time the competition was virtual
Our students showed they were up to all these new adventures!
Twelve middle school students enrolled in the new class and studied the South Carolina mock trial case as well as South Carolina law throughout first semester.
Second semester the students worked virtually in the evenings. This all paid off, and the team placed second (runner up) in the state in the recent South Carolina Bar Middle School Mock Trial Competition.
In addition to the team award, the following individuals won awards based on their performances throughout the competition:
Best Witness Awards – Jonathan Kamdar (2 awards), Caedmon Jansen, Anna Velasco, Reece Kamdar
Best Attorney Award – Jacobi Chisholm (5 awards)
Middle school mock trial is coached by BJA teacher Chuck Nicholas and attorney Ruth Hindman DiPasquale (BJA Class of 2000).
