On Saturday, September 21, eight members of the middle school Mock Trial Team traveled to Columbia to attend a workshop hosted by the South Carolina Bar’s Law Related Education (LRE) division. The one-day workshop serves as a “mini camp” on various aspects of mock trial. Middle and high school students come from all over the state to learn the basics of how a trial works. They receive valuable information on such topics as these: handling witness statements and exhibits; developing cross and direct examinations, opening and closing statements, and witness characterizations; making objections; and courtroom deportment. Attending the workshop was a first for BJA, and the students who participated enjoyed and profited from the day’s experience.
