State Treasurer Curtis Loftis visited Bob Jones Academy Elementary School as part of his “Log on to Financial Literacy” tour across the state.
Loftis spoke to over 350 second through sixth grade students during a student assembly about money and how it has been used historically. He encouraged students to save their money and use it to get something they need or to help others.
He stressed the importance of learning financial literacy – even at a young age. He encouraged the students to learn about money and finances by using their iPads to play financial literacy games. At the conclusion of his presentation, Loftis donated ten iPads to the school for their use. The iPads were provided by a private grant.
“It was a privilege to host Treasurer Loftis today,” said Dr. Dan Barbrow, principal at BJA Elementary School. “His generosity in providing iPads to help students have fun as they learn more about money and finances is most appreciated.”
Following the school assembly, Loftis toured the school and spoke briefly with students in K4 and fifth grade classrooms.
