Forty-seven members of Bob Jones Academy’s high school speech and debate team joined forces with the team’s coaches, parents and faculty to successfully host the largest speech and debate invitational in the school’s history. Over 550 public and private school students along with about 200 coaches, judges and parents from 38 public and private schools in a four-state area competed in the one-day event. Participation reached an all-time high of over 650 entries. The tournament spread out in six Bob Jones University buildings as students competed in debate, public speaking and interpretation events. Over 120 trophies were presented at the awards program, which was held in Rodeheaver Auditorium on the BJU campus.
The BJA team members served as tournament hosts. They spent the day selling concessions, serving lunch, directing contestants and judges to rooms, and tabulating results. Overall, the day was highly successful with schools commenting on the organization and friendliness of the tournament.
