You likely remember singing the delightful little song that begins with “The B-I-B-L-E! Yes, that’s the book for me!” In the classroom, as soon as we begin to spell B-I-B-L-E, I see enthusiastic children getting ready to stand and sing out, “I stand alone on the word of God.” and then finish the familiar song by shouting “BIBLE!” God’s truth, which we desire for the children to embrace, is the truth of His written word—the Bible.
In John 17:17, Jesus is praying to His Father before his sacrificial death on the cross, and He says, “Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth.” In John 14:6, we read “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” From our very earliest interactions with the children, we begin to teach them the importance of God’s Word and Jesus as the source of truth. We sing, recite, and rehearse God’s Word with them. All of this is in an effort to teach them to embrace God’s truth for themselves. However, this head knowledge of God and His Word isn’t all that we desire for our children, so we also seek to demonstrate that we believe God’s truth in the way that we live before our students. By example, we, as parents and teachers, demonstrate that the Bible isn’t just a special book for Sunday worship or one that we reverently keep in a designated place on the nightstand. It is an everyday manual for seeking to know God and His truths. As believers, we should open our hearts to the truths of God’s Word with a response like that of the Psalmist’s prayer in Psalm 86:11, “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.”
As the day begins at BJA, children can be heard reciting Scripture and Bible Truths. Elementary students say the pledge to the Bible, promising to hide its words in their hearts (Psalm 119:105).
During the school day, Bible truths are brought into lessons in a variety of teachable moments. Through these practices and many others, we desire for the students to embrace God’s truth and become vibrant followers of Christ. We pray that the students will affirm in their hearts the truths of God’s Word and continue to say, “The B-I-B-L-E! Yes, that’s the book for me!”
Bob Jones Academy exists to assist like-minded Christian parents in challenging students to love Jesus Christ, to embrace God’s truth, to exercise integrity, to pursue excellence, and to serve others.
