October 15 found the BJA high school campus crowded with over 600 high school students, coaches and judges eager to participate in BJA’s 25th Speech and Debate Invitational. The tournament contestants represented students from 27 high schools in a four-state area.
Over 60 BJA graduates attended the tournament to serve as judges. The BJA forensic team did not compete in the tournament but rather served in various hosting positions throughout the day. The team has distinguished itself as one of the best host schools in the state.
The tournament included four rounds of competition in 15 debate, interpretation and public speaking events. Unique to the BJA tournament was the free contestant lunch after Round 2. At 6 p.m. all contestants met in the Academy Auditorium for the awards program where over 100 trophies were presented to individuals scoring at the top of their events throughout the day.
